Suffering illness as a child he was largely uneducated and began works as a Potter's apprentice at the age of 10, but after a reckless young adulthood he became one of this country's most successful evangelists. As one of the founders of the Primitive Methodist movement in the early nineteenth century, he set up his base in Hull, a town he called the 'fruitful mother' and the place which became his home and his final resting place. From Hull he toured the country spreading his message of God's salvation and transforming the social landscape of the country in his wake. At the time of his death he was a celebrated citizen of Hull but now his grave is obscured and he has become the 'forgotten son'. Until now....
