Douglas Adams and John Lloyd wrote The Meaning of Liff, which took obscure place names and gave them rich new meanings. Adams and Lloyd describe a 'liff' as 'A common object or experience for which no word yet exists.' Nigel Bayley applied this idea to words, mainly proper names, found in the Bible.
