About Us

Who are we ?

Each member of the team at Christian Resources for Life is committed to enabling others to know the joy of the gospel of Jesus Christ as well as the power of God through the work of the Holy Spirit. We seek to do this through the provision of a variety of resources for use by individuals, small groups and churches. To do this we have teamed up with the Methodist Book Centre which has a country-wide reputation for the sale of Christian books, music, gifts etc.

We are ecumenical in our outlook and in our understanding of the Christian Church. Directly supported by the experience and vision of the Methodist District of Chester and Stoke-on Trent we have a wide experience in the needs of individuals as they seek to know more about the Christian faith and those who wish to deepen their own spirituality. We have practical knowledge of what sort of resources are more suitable and successful in differing situations and seek to provide help and direction to groups and churches as they seek to proclaim the Christian message.

Where are we ?

Our Centre is located in Gitana Street which is almost in the centre of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent where we have been providing books and other resources to churches and Sunday schools for nearly 70 years. However, we are more than a bookshop and have been described as an oasis in the middle of a busy retail and commercial environment. Our Centre Manager – Julie Ann Ellis – has many years of experience in the retail trade and the selecting and provision of Christian books and other resources. Julie Ann is ably supported by her team at the Centre and behind the scenes. You are most welcome to drop in for a chat and a browse anytime we are open – which is Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and on Saturday it is 10am to 4pm.

What do we offer ?

We have a mission and it is not to generate a profit although, obviously, there are costs to be met. That mission is to be part of the overall purpose of the Christian church and all funds earned are used for that purpose. We recognise we are part of the world-wide Christian movement and the ecumenical nature of our product range recognises the variety of emphases that there are within the Christian family.

We have a vast range of resources for Christian life including

One of the largest selections in the country of Bibles in a variety of versions and presentations

Commentaries and theological study

Aspects of Christian living

Worship books – a wealth of music books, prayers for public and private devotions

Childrens’ books and gifts

DVDs and CDs

Gifts for special occasions – baptisms, weddings etc

Gifts, food etc to encourage the use of fair trade resources

In addition we are in contact with many publishers ensuring a speedy supply of books currently in print.

We want to help and encourage churches in their mission. We encourage churches to develop a bookstall and we offer special facilities and discounts to enable this to be done. Perhaps you are arranging a conference – we shall be pleased to organise a bookstall, possibly staffing it for you if appropriate. Of particular mention is the Trade Aid section located at our centre. Here is a vast selection of food and gifts specially chosen to encourage the use by individuals of fairly traded products and to support the working conditions of the producers involved.
